Paying Turkish university tuition from Iran

Tuition for a university in Turkey or Northern Cyprus deposited straight into the university's account, with rate and fee confirmed before payment and a bank receipt.

Paying tuition to a university in Turkey from Iran is, for many students and families, their first transfer to Turkey. The university states the amount in lira, dollars or euros with a deadline, and expects the money in its own official account rather than a personal one. EL DÖVİZ handles this as a deposit into the university's account: you pay the equivalent in toman or USDT and receive the bank receipt for the deposit.

This page explains which documents are needed, how the request works, what differs for universities in Northern Cyprus and private universities, and how to follow up on the receipt. The rate and fee of every request are confirmed before the deposit, depending on the currency and amount, and nothing is paid until you have approved it.

How tuition is paid from Iran

Turkish universities collect tuition through their official bank accounts. A student who is still in Iran, or who has no bank account in Turkey yet, has two common options: carry cash and deposit it in Turkey, or arrange the payment as a transfer through an exchange office. The second option is the same process described on the lira transfers to Turkey page, except that the receiver is the university's account and the payment description must carry the student's details.

In practice, you send us the university's account details and the tuition amount; we review the request and confirm the rate and fee; after your approval and payment the deposit is made and the receipt is sent to you. The university sets the amount; we only calculate its equivalent at the confirmed rate. For a first estimate you can check today's Turkish lira rate. That figure is a reference market rate; your final rate is confirmed after the request is reviewed.

Tuition in lira, dollars or euros

Some universities quote tuition in lira, others in dollars or euros. The deposit should be made in the currency stated in the university's letter or invoice, because a deposit in another currency may be converted at the bank's own rate and change the final amount. If the university offers several currency options, decide which one you are using before you ask for a quote, so the rate is confirmed on the same basis.

Who uses this service

A newly admitted student who must pay a deposit or the first semester before travelling; a student living in Turkey whose family pays the tuition from Iran; and an applicant to a university in Northern Cyprus whose account is in Turkey or in Northern Cyprus. In all three cases the starting point is the same: the university's document and its account details.

Documents you need

To have the request reviewed without back-and-forth, prepare the following.

Acceptance letter or tuition invoice

The acceptance letter or tuition invoice issued by the university shows the amount, currency, payment deadline and usually the account details. It is the basis of the deposit, and the payment description is normally taken from it.

The university's account details

The full name of the account holder (the university's official name), the IBAN, the bank name and, where available, the branch code or SWIFT code. Take these details directly from the university or the student portal, never from intermediaries or Telegram messages. If the university keeps a separate account per currency, send the account that matches the currency of the tuition.

The student's details

First and last name exactly as written in the passport and the acceptance letter, the student number or file number, and the programme or faculty. Many universities match a deposit to a student file only through these details, so they must appear in the payment description.

Amount and currency

The exact amount due and its currency. If the university has accepted payment in instalments, state the amount of that instalment, not the whole tuition, so the rate is quoted for the right sum.

The process, step by step

Step 1 — Request

State the currency, the amount and that the receiver is a university. The full set of documents is not needed yet; this is enough for the initial review.

Step 2 — Review and quote

After the review, the conversion rate, the fee and the final amount you pay in toman or USDT are confirmed. The quote is not binding until you approve it and may be updated as the market moves.

Step 3 — Your approval and payment

Once you approve, you pay the confirmed equivalent and send the university's documents and the student's details. The payment method (toman in Iran or USDT) is settled at this step.

Step 4 — Deposit to the university's account

The deposit is made to the university's IBAN with a description containing the name and student number, so the finance office can match it to your file.

Step 5 — Receipt

The bank receipt (dekont) for the deposit is sent to you to present to the university or upload to the student portal.

How timing is communicated

The timing of a deposit depends on several factors: the currency, the amount, banking days in Turkey and when your own payment is finalised. For that reason this page does not state any duration; after the request is reviewed, an estimated time is given to you. If the university's deadline is close, say so at the start so it is taken into account. Public holidays in Turkey and Iran do not coincide, and bank holidays in either country can affect when a deposit lands.

Northern Cyprus and private universities

Universities in Northern Cyprus usually quote tuition in dollars or euros, and their accounts may be held at banks in Turkey or in Northern Cyprus. Private universities in Turkey sometimes keep a separate foreign-currency account for international students. In both cases the work starts from the same documents, and whether a deposit to the account in question is possible is confirmed after the review. If the university requires payment through an education agent, first confirm with the university that a direct deposit to its account is accepted.

State universities and YÖK

State universities in Turkey operate under the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and usually quote tuition for international students in lira. Their account details appear on the official portal or in the acceptance letter. Every request is reviewed individually; we keep no list of "supported" universities, because the receiver is always the university's own account.

Admission fee versus tuition fee

University correspondence in Turkey uses several payment labels. An application fee is charged for reviewing the file at application time. An admission fee, or pre-payment, secures the admission and the final letter, and is usually deducted from the tuition later. The tuition fee is the actual fee for the semester or academic year, payable at once or in instalments. Each may have its own amount, deadline and even receiving account, so write in your request which one you are paying. The difference between admission and tuition fees is explained in more detail in the blog.

Receipt and follow-up

After the deposit you receive the bank receipt showing the sender's name, amount, currency, date and payment description. Send it to the university or upload it to the portal; most universities record the payment once the description has been matched to the student file. If the deposit does not appear in your file, give the receipt's reference number to the finance office; we will also provide the deposit details for follow-up if needed. Keep the receipt until you graduate, as it may be needed for a student residence renewal or a later discrepancy.

Why a deposit rather than cash

Carrying cash for tuition is subject to customs rules and carries the risk of transport and storage. A direct deposit to the university's account produces a bank receipt you can rely on and does not require opening an account in Turkey. To compare the options, read the guide to sending money from Iran to Turkey; if you have questions before requesting, the rate enquiry and transfer consultation page explains what you can ask.

To start, enter the tuition amount and currency in the quote form and note that the receiver is a university account. EL DÖVİZ reviews the request, confirms the rate, fee and final amount, and makes the deposit only after your approval.

  • Deposit straight into the university's official account with the student's details
  • Final amount, rate and fee confirmed before the deposit
  • Bank receipt for the university's finance office

Frequently asked questions

I have no bank account in Turkey. Can I still pay the tuition?

Yes. The deposit goes directly to the university's account, so you do not need a personal account in Turkey. The university's account details and the student's details are enough.

Is my university supported?

There is no list of specific universities; every request is reviewed on its own. If the university has an official bank account with an IBAN, we confirm whether the deposit is possible after reviewing the request.

The tuition is quoted in dollars or euros. Do I have to send lira?

No. The deposit is made in the currency the university quoted. State the currency in your request so the rate and the amount you pay are quoted on the same basis.

Can I pay the tuition in instalments?

Instalments are decided by the university, not by us. Each instalment is handled as a separate request at the rate quoted at that time.

Can my family pay from Iran?

Yes. Typically the family pays the toman equivalent in Iran and the deposit is made with the student's name and student number in the payment description.

What does the receipt show?

The bank receipt shows the amount, currency, date, receiving account and payment description; it is usually the document a university finance office asks for to record the payment.

Where do I find the rate and fee?

The rate and fee are confirmed after your request is reviewed and before the deposit. The rate table on this site is a reference market rate, not your final quote.
