Convert USDT to lira or cash dollars in Istanbul

Sell or buy tether in Istanbul with cash lira or dollars at the office, or a deposit to your account; the rate is confirmed first.

Converting USDT to lira in Istanbul is, for many Iranians living in or visiting Turkey, the simplest way to get money into the country: you send tether (USDT) from your own wallet and collect the equivalent in cash lira or dollars at the EL DÖVİZ office, or have it paid into your own Turkish bank account. The reverse works too. If you hold lira or dollars and need USDT, buying tether goes through the same process.

This page explains what EL DÖVİZ's tether service covers, why USDT has become so common for moving money between Iran and Turkey, how the process works step by step, what the difference between the TRC20 and ERC20 networks means in practice, and which security and regulatory points to consider before you send anything. The rate and fee for every request are confirmed before execution, and nothing happens until you have confirmed.

Tether services at EL DÖVİZ

Our tether service is built around three needs: selling USDT for cash, selling USDT for a bank deposit, and buying USDT. In all three cases your request is reviewed first, and the proposed rate, the fee and the delivery method are stated plainly.

Sell USDT for cash lira or dollars

The most common request is to sell tether for cash lira in Istanbul, whether for day-to-day expenses, a rental deposit or the first weeks of settling in. Cash dollars are also possible, subject to availability on the day. Hand-over takes place at the office, and the exact amount you will receive is settled with you beforehand, so there are no surprises at the counter.

Sell USDT for a deposit to your account

If you already have a Turkish bank account, you can have the lira value of your tether paid into your own account instead of taking cash. This requires the account holder's name and the IBAN. If you do not have an account yet, read the guide to opening a bank account in Turkey. To pay someone else's account in Turkey, the lira transfer to Turkey page is the better route, because payment in toman is considered there as well.

Buy USDT

Sometimes the direction is reversed: you hold lira or dollars and want USDT, for example to send money from Turkey to Iran or to keep savings in a dollar-denominated form. Once the rate is confirmed, the USDT is sent to the wallet address you provide on the agreed network, and the transaction ID is shared with you.

Why tether became the common route

Tether is a stablecoin: a crypto asset whose value is kept pegged to the US dollar, without the sharp daily swings of bitcoin. For someone who simply wants to move money from one place to another, rather than invest, that makes it an understandable tool: the dollar value stays almost unchanged between sending and delivery.

USDT moves on blockchain networks such as TRC20 (Tron) and ERC20 (Ethereum). The transfer needs no bank intermediary, works at any hour, and every transaction is recorded on the network, where both sides can follow it by its ID. Where direct bank transfers between Iran and Turkey are difficult, these properties have made buying and selling tether one of the most used routes.

Tether is not a replacement for every method, though. Someone holding toman in Iran who needs to pay a recipient with a Turkish bank account can use a lira transfer to Turkey without a crypto wallet at all. The guide to tether in Turkey sets out that comparison in more detail.

Who sells USDT in Istanbul?

  • New arrivals and visitors who prefer not to carry a lot of cash and would rather collect lira after landing.
  • Students who receive living costs or part of their school payments from family in Iran as USDT; for the tuition itself, see paying Turkish university tuition.
  • Freelancers and people with foreign-currency income who are paid in USDT and need lira to spend in Turkey.
  • Residents who convert USDT to lira or dollars at regular intervals for rent, purchases or savings.

In all of these cases the common thread is the same: the amount, the currency you receive and the delivery method are fixed before anything is sent.

Tether or a bank transfer?

Which route suits you depends on where the money is right now. If it is already sitting in your wallet as USDT, the route on this page is the shortest: delivery or deposit after the network confirms. If it is in Iran as toman and the recipient has a Turkish IBAN, requesting a lira transfer involves fewer steps than opening a crypto wallet. If it is in Turkey as lira and needs to reach Iran, the transfer from Turkey to Iran page describes both cash and USDT payment options.

If you are undecided, mention both options in your request; the rate and fee are quoted separately for each route so you can compare and choose.

How converting USDT to lira works

  1. Request: In the quote form, state the amount of USDT, the currency you want to receive (lira or dollars) and the delivery method (cash or deposit).
  2. Rate and fee: After your request is reviewed, the proposed rate, the fee and the net amount you will receive are stated. This depends on the amount and on market conditions and is not binding until you confirm.
  3. Your confirmation: If you accept the terms, you confirm. Only then are the destination wallet address and the transfer network shared with you.
  4. Sending the USDT: You send the tether on exactly the agreed network to the stated address and share the transaction ID (TxID) with us.
  5. Network confirmation and delivery: Once the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain, the cash lira or dollars are handed over at the office or the deposit is made, and you receive the receipt.

How long each step takes depends on network congestion, the delivery method and the office appointment, and is reviewed with you beforehand. We do not promise a fixed time; we give the estimate for that specific request.

TRC20 or ERC20?

USDT exists on several networks, and the choice has three practical consequences:

  • Network fee: Each network charges its own fee for the transfer, separate from EL DÖVİZ's fee; the network sets it, not us. It is deducted from what you send, so the amount we receive is whatever arrives at the address.
  • Address format: TRC20 addresses usually start with T, ERC20 addresses with 0x. Sending USDT to an address on a different network can lose the funds.
  • Agreement beforehand: Send only on the network agreed at the confirmation stage. If your wallet or exchange supports a different network only, say so before sending and you will be given an address for that network.

For a practical comparison of the two networks, read TRC20 or ERC20.

Crypto platform rules in Turkey

As of October 2026, Turkey has tightened the rules for crypto platforms. Under General Circular No. 29 of the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), published in the Official Gazette on 28 June 2025, licensed platforms are reported to apply stablecoin transfer caps of USD 3,000 per day and USD 50,000 per month per user (double for platforms applying the Travel Rule), a 48-hour hold on withdrawals (72 hours for new accounts) and a mandatory description on every transfer.

These rules bind crypto platforms in Turkey and shape the terms of your account there; check the current rules against official sources before you plan, as they may have changed. Follow the details and updates in stablecoin transfer limits in Turkey and the guide to tether in Turkey.

Security notes

  • Take the destination wallet address only from the official channel and only after your request is confirmed, and compare the first and last characters again before sending.
  • If the amount is large and you are uneasy, a small test transfer is possible only when agreed beforehand.
  • Beware of fake Telegram and WhatsApp accounts that write in the name of exchange offices; EL DÖVİZ never asks you to send USDT before a rate has been quoted and you have confirmed.
  • Never share your wallet's recovery phrase or private key with anyone, including us.
  • Keep the transaction ID until the request is complete; it is the tracking reference for both sides.

Today's USDT rate and how the rate is quoted

The USDT rate today table on the site shows a market reference rate from a public source and is fine for a first estimate, but it is not EL DÖVİZ's firm rate. When the source has no valid data, the table shows USDT as "unavailable"; you can still request a quote directly.

The final rate for each request depends on the amount, the currency you receive and market conditions at that moment, is confirmed before execution, and the fee is stated separately. If you hold toman rather than USDT and want lira, see buying and selling lira.

To begin, enter the USDT amount and your preferred delivery method in the quote form; the rate and terms are confirmed with you before any step is taken.

  • Confirm the currency you receive and the network (TRC20 or ERC20)
  • Choose cash collection at the office or a deposit to your account
  • Rate and fee are confirmed before you send any USDT

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to come to the office to sell tether in Istanbul?

Cash lira or dollars are handed over at the office. If you hold a Turkish bank account, a deposit to your own account can be arranged without a visit.

Which network should I send USDT on?

Only the network agreed when your request is confirmed, usually TRC20 or ERC20. Sending on a different network can lose the funds, so compare the network and the address again before sending.

How is the USDT to lira rate set?

The rate for each request depends on the amount, the currency you receive and market conditions at that moment, and is quoted after your request is reviewed; the fee is stated separately. The rate table on the site is a market reference rate, not EL DÖVİZ's firm quote.

Can I receive cash dollars instead of lira?

Yes. Cash dollars are subject to availability on the day, so name the currency you want in your request and the quote will be for that currency.

Do I send USDT first, or is the rate quoted first?

The rate and fee always come first, and the wallet address is shared only after you confirm. No request ever requires you to send USDT before a quote and your confirmation.

Can I buy USDT with lira or dollars?

Yes. Buying USDT follows the same process: once the rate is confirmed, the USDT is sent to the wallet address you provide on the agreed network.

Is there a legal limit on stablecoin transfers in Turkey?

As of writing, Turkey has set limits on stablecoin transfers for licensed crypto platforms; they are summarised with a source in the legal limits section of this page. Those rules concern your account on such platforms and should be checked against official sources before you plan.
