Lira transfer to a Ziraat Bank account: steps, details and timing

Lira transfer to a Ziraat Bank account from Iran: the receiver details you need, what a Turkish IBAN looks like, how a request runs and how timing is set.

A lira transfer to a Ziraat Bank account is one of the most common needs of Iranians with ties to Turkey: a student who pays tuition and rent from a Ziraat account, a family sending money to a son or daughter living in Istanbul, or someone funding their own account in Turkey. The route is the same in every case: you pay in toman or USDT, and the lira equivalent is deposited into an account with a Ziraat IBAN.

This article walks through which receiver details you need, what a Turkish IBAN looks like, how a request moves from quote to bank receipt, which mistakes stop a transfer and what "deposit timing" means in practice.

Where Ziraat fits in

Ziraat Bankası is one of Turkey's largest state-owned banks, with branches in almost every Istanbul neighbourhood. Many Iranians living or studying in Turkey hold their lira account at Ziraat or at the other state bank, Vakıfbank, which is why these two names come up so often in questions about transfers.

For a transfer, the receiving bank is simply where the IBAN belongs. Whether the account is at Ziraat or elsewhere makes no difference; what makes the transfer possible is correct account details, not the bank's name. If you do not have an account yet, read the guide to opening a bank account in Turkey.

What a Turkish IBAN looks like

A Turkish IBAN starts with the letters TR followed by 24 digits, 26 characters in total. It is the unique identifier of the account in the banking system, and every domestic transfer in Turkey uses it. You can find it in the bank's app, in online banking or on the account opening form.

Two points matter:

  • Each currency account has its own IBAN. The same person's lira and dollar accounts at the same bank carry two different IBANs. For a lira transfer, send the IBAN of the lira account.
  • Copy the IBAN, do not type it. Most deposit errors come from one digit swapped while typing by hand.

Which receiver details you need

Prepare the following for a lira transfer request to Ziraat Bank:

  1. The receiver's full name exactly as it appears on the account. The Latin spelling must match the bank's records, including Turkish letters such as İ, Ş or Ğ if the name contains them.
  2. The full IBAN of the lira account.
  3. The bank name (Ziraat here) and, if you like, the branch. The branch is not required for the deposit, but it helps when checking the details.
  4. The amount in lira, or the amount you want to pay; one of the two is enough, the other is calculated at the quoted rate.
  5. Your relationship to the account holder: your own account, a family member, a landlord or a company. This affects which documents may be requested.

If the receiver is a company or a university, the registered account name is usually the institution's legal name, not the contact person's. For tuition, the Turkish university tuition payment page has more detail.

The steps of a lira transfer to Ziraat Bank

A request at EL DÖVİZ runs in four steps, and nothing is executed at any step before you confirm:

  1. Quote. You state the currency you pay with (toman or USDT), the amount and that the destination is a Ziraat account. For a first estimate, look at today's lira rate; that figure is the market reference rate, not the final transfer rate.
  2. Rate and fee. After the request is reviewed, the proposed rate, the fee and the exact lira amount to be deposited are communicated to you. The rate and fee are always confirmed before execution.
  3. Confirmation and payment. If you accept the terms, you finalise the receiver details and pay the agreed amount.
  4. Deposit and receipt. The lira is deposited to the stated IBAN and the bank receipt is sent to you. Keep it; you will need it for rent, tuition or proof of payment.

Payment methods and documents are covered in more detail on the lira transfer to Turkey page.

Common mistakes that stop a transfer

  • Name does not match the account. If the name given does not match the bank's records, the deposit may bounce or be held. Take the name from the receiver's bank documents.
  • Wrong IBAN, or the IBAN of a foreign-currency account. A swapped digit, or the dollar account's IBAN instead of the lira account's, is the most common reason for a return.
  • Closed or restricted account. Accounts unused for a long time, or restricted by the bank, do not accept deposits. Make sure the account is active before requesting.
  • Changing details after confirmation. If you want to change the receiver or the amount after the rate is confirmed, the request has to be reviewed again.

What "deposit timing" means

Advertising is full of phrases like "instant deposit". In practice, timing depends on several factors: the receiving bank and its working hours, the amount, and whether the account details are complete at the first review. That is why EL DÖVİZ does not promise a time in advance; after the request is reviewed, an estimated timing is communicated together with the rate and fee, and nothing is executed until you confirm.

If the deposit is needed for a specific date, such as a rent due date or a tuition deadline, say so in the request from the start so it is taken into account during the review.

If you do not have an account yet

If the receiver has no bank account in Turkey yet, the account has to be opened before the transfer. The guide to opening a bank account in Turkey explains the documents and steps, and the article on which Turkish bank suits Iranians compares the banks from a resident's point of view.

To start, fill in the quote form: the currency you pay with, the amount and Ziraat Bank as the destination. After the request is reviewed, the rate, the fee and the estimated timing are communicated to you before anything is done.

Frequently asked questions

What details do I need for a lira transfer to Ziraat Bank?

The receiver's full name exactly as on the account, the IBAN of the lira account, the bank name and the amount. The branch name is optional.

Is it a problem if I give the IBAN of a dollar account?

Yes. Each currency account has its own IBAN, and a lira deposit to the IBAN of a dollar account usually bounces or is held. Send the IBAN of the lira account.

How long does the deposit take?

Timing depends on the receiving bank, the amount and whether the details are complete. After the request is reviewed, an estimated timing is communicated to you together with the rate and fee, before execution.

Can I send to someone else's Ziraat account?

Yes, as long as the name and IBAN are exact. State your relationship to the account holder in the request; documents may be requested depending on the case.

Do I get a bank receipt?

Yes. After the deposit, the bank receipt is sent to you. Keep it for rent, tuition or proof of payment.
